Analysing Graphic Design work for a media product

Snow Patrol Fallen Empires Tour and release

A:Purpose

The purpose of these media products are to sell the album and in the case of the tour poster it is also to promote the Fallen Empires tour. The end goal for these products are to get sales for the album and tour along with promoting the brand as a whole.

B: Format

The three formats are:
Poster
Album cover
Webpage

C: Content

All three products contain a very distinctive eagle, along with the bold stylising of Snow patrols Logo and branding in the Band name and sub text. In the case of the poster it also contains information about the tour, album and weblink. The webpage on the other hand also has articles and information to do with the band along with the social media links and information with the links to the shop and about the artist.

D) Style

Snow patrol have a very distinctive branding and style throughout their advertising and promotion campaigns. With text being bold and sans serif with the text being sharp and contrasting with the rest of the product, you can see this in all of the the products with the text showing hierarchy and the photo being front and center in the image.

E) Layout

Two of the products have a similar layout, that being the website and the album cover. They both make use of white space to give the products a more open look to them. They also use a border to position text to great effect making the center of the content more important whilst still leaving enough room to make the products look uncluttered and clear. The poster makes use of hierarchy in its layout with the most important facts being at the top of the two main text boxes. The top half of this poster is focused on the image/background with the top half being used for information. The website shares this DNA with a large area in the top being used for the image as that is important to the branding of the website.

F) Target audience

The target audience is very broad however there is a focus on the young adults you can tell this is the branding of the products with them having a very modern appeal to them which would mainly appeal the the young adults.
Age: 18-25
Gender: No bias
Interests: Music, Concerts etc.
Spending power: Low/average with young adults not having as much disposable income compared to the older counterparts.
They are however likely to have a streaming service subscription such as Spotify or Deezer.
Lifestyle: They are likely to be creative types with a interest in living life to the fullest.

G) Regulatory bodies

Advertising Standards Authority will be the main regulatory body that they would have had to deal with whilst making the promotional material (For the UK). They would have had to take into consideration the text and images to be included with the product making sure that it does not offend anyone along with making sure the content is appropriate for the target audience and the material in the CD fits with the Promotional Material with any swearing being clear before the customer buys the product.
The ASA role as a regulatory body are regulating the advertising industry in the United kingdom. They are self regulating and are not a governmental body. Breaking rules they set are not a criminal offence however the press tends to read the statements and put into their weekly newsletter and make a story from it, giving the affected bodys bad publicity. People can make complaints to the ASA and these can be investigated and if they are found to be breaking the rules they can give the affected companies bad press. They can also request all future advertisements to be checked before they go live, this can significantly delay advertising campaigns and effect the related companies in a significant way.
